NAME Solid state NMR platform

DESCRIPTION

Solid-state NMR can provide very accurate information about the structure and the dynamics of molecules and ions in solid materials. This is often crucial for the understanding and the development of new materials. Solid-state NMR is a sensitive technique to short-range order that surpasses traditional techniques of materials characterization as X-ray diffraction or electron microscopy in the study of amorphous materials and complements these techniques in the study of crystalline materials. Furthermore, solid state NMR can provide dynamic information with atomic specificity in highly disordered and even fully amorphous materials. The technologies of the solid-state NMR platform at the CIC are specially designed for the characterization of organic, inorganic and paramagnetic materials including variable temperature studies (-120 C degrees to +400 C degrees).

MOST OUTSTANDING EQUIPMENT AND COMPONENTS

  • Paramagnetic solid state NMR spectrometer

    Low field magnet combined with an ultrafast MAS pobre optimized for the analisis and characterization of paramagnetic solid materials, used for example as cathode in electrochemical devices.

  • Solution NMR spectrometer

    High resolution 300 MHz BBFO spectrometer equipped with a sample changer for automatized measurements of organic compounds and polymers.

  • WB 500 MHz solid state NMR spectrometer

    Avance III 500 MHz was installed at CIC in April 2012. It is a wide bore magnet especially suited for non magnetic materials where high resolution is desired. This magnet is equiped with a 1.3mm probe, a triple channel 2.5 mm probe and an static probe for variable temperature studies.

Solid state NMR is suitable for the determination of the presence and the composition of traces of dopants in a material independently of the state of the compound.
